Fourteen Burmese students have received scholarships in the first batch of Lincoln Scholarships provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), according to the US Embassy. The first batch of Lincoln Scholars was in Shan State. Kachin State Karen State Mon State Rakhine State Yangon Region Nine women and five men are from Bago Region, the statement said.
The 14 Lincoln Scholarship winners will leave in August to pursue master’s degrees at 10 universities in the United States. The Lincoln Scholarship Program is named in honor of the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.
